Second body recovered, identified in Half Moon Bay plane crash

HALF MOON BAY, Calif. ( KRON ) — The second body of a person on board a single-engine plane that crashed into the Pacific Ocean near Half Moon Bay earlier this month has been recovered and identified by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office. The body of Cassidy Petit, 26, was recovered Wednesday afternoon in the same area where the aircraft went down.

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office located a body found floating in the ocean near Ross Cove in Moss Beach on Wednesday at approximately 4:16 p.m., according to the coroner’s office. After the body was recovered, it was transferred to the harbor master at Pillar Point Marina. The county coroner’s office responded to the marina to assume jurisdiction.

Petit was identified by fingerprint comparison, the coroner’s office said.

A report from the National Transportation Safety Board indicated there were four people on board the Cozy Mark IV plane at the time of the fatal crash on Jan. 14. One other body was recovered on Jan. 15, identified as Emma Willmer-Shiles, 27, of San Francisco.
