In a startling trend that has kicked off 2024, several tech companies in the Bay Area have announced plans to lay off more than 1,000 additional employees. The news suggests an ominous start for the high-tech sector in the region this year, according to official state notices.
Among the tech giants revealing their local impact of layoffs are LinkedIn, Cruise, and Carbon. These companies have officially divulged these details in documents filed with the state Employment Development Department (EDD).
LinkedIn, the work- and career-oriented social network, has decided to slash 433 jobs in the Bay Area. Of these, 349 were in Mountain View, 42 in Sunnyvale, and 42 in San Francisco. The layoffs, which took effect on December 15, 2023, were revealed in LinkedIn’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) letter dated December 15, 2023, and posted on the EDD’s site on January 19, 2024.
