Winter heat records tumble after record warmth hits multiple California cities

The Bay Area experienced unseasonably warm temperatures on Sunday, January 28, 2024, setting several records that date back decades, according to the National Weather Service Bay Area office.

Redwood City surpassed its previous record by reaching 73°F, beating the 1984 record of 71°F.

San Jose tied its record from 1928, recording a high of 72°F.

Salinas Airport experienced an impressive 79°F, breaking the previous record of 78°F set in 1934 and 1931.

While residents soaked in the unexpected warmth, attention now turns to an impending weather shift.

The National Weather Service Bay Area office alerts the community about the increasing confidence in heavy rainfall expected on Wednesday. The latest projections indicate substantial precipitation totals, raising concerns about potential flooding.
