One of the winter’s biggest storms is bearing down on The City.
On the heels of record-breaking heat to open the week, heavy rain is slated to pound the Bay Area on Wednesday.
“It definitely will be one of the stronger storms we’ve seen so far (this water year),” National Weather Service meteorologist Alexis Clouser told The Examiner on Tuesday.
San Francisco is projected to receive 2.5 and 3 inches of rain, Clouser said, as well as gusts of wind up to 45 mph.
The looming weather hazards prompted the agency to issue a 48-hour flood watch for the entire Bay Area starting Wednesday at 4 a.m. and a 24-hour wind advisory in San Francisco starting at the same time.
The NWS issues such cautions — which include advisories, watches and, the most severe, warnings — ahead of impactful weather events for potentially impacted residents.
The heavy rainfall could oversaturate soils and prevent them from soaking up as much water, leading to rises in creeks and streams and potential flooding on the roadways, Clouser said.
