1 injured in police shooting on I-280

SAN FRANCISCO ( KRON ) — All southbound lanes of I-280 were blocked Wednesday afternoon due to a police shooting in San Francisco, according to California Highway Patrol. The roadway has since reopened.

The shooting happened on the on-ramp at Mariposa Street, with an officer firing at a pedestrian, CHP confirmed. CHP said a suspect was taken into custody.

The shooting happened after CHP was called to the scene of a pedestrian on I-280. An officer struggled with the pedestrian before shooting them, CHP said.

A knife that was believed to be the pedestrian’s was recovered at the scene. The subject was hospitalized and is expected to survive.

There is no threat to the public, CHP said.

Drivers were being diverted onto city streets. People were advised to find alternate routes. I-280 was closed for an extended period of time Wednesday evening.
