In a startling incident caught on surveillance camera video, a brazen daylight armed robbery unfolded at a 76 gas station in Oakland, leaving victims and the local community outraged. The incident occurred on January 29, 2024, just after 2:30 p.m. at the 76 station located in the 400 block of Hegenberger Road.
The surveillance footage reveals a gray four-door sedan pulling up at a pump across from a white SUV. A hooded individual exits the sedan and opens the rear of the SUV, while others from the sedan assist in removing the victims’ property. Another hooded individual can be seen exiting the car, brandishing a firearm, which prompts a bystander in the background to raise their hands in fear.
The assailants wasted no time in ransacking the victims’ vehicle, smashing the back window of the SUV and pistol-whipping one of the victims. Maxey Scherr, the mother of one of the victims, described the harrowing encounter, stating, “He puts it to my son’s chest and starts hitting him on the chest and on the waist with a gun… They took everything these kids had. They took their luggage; they took my son’s cellphone.”
