The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) arrested 23 individuals in two night operations around UN Plaza. This is part of the city’s increased efforts to address the drug issue in the mid-Market area. These operations are part of the Drug Market Agency Coordination Center (DMACC) initiatives in the Tenderloin and South of Market neighborhoods. The SFPD is reallocating resources to the UN Plaza area, following progress on 7th and Market streets. Regular night operations are planned.
Mayor London Breed launched the DMACC in May 2023. Since then, the SFPD and Sheriff’s Office have arrested 2,351 individuals on charges including intent to sell, public drug use, and outstanding warrants. Over 135 kilos of narcotics, including 70 kilos of fentanyl, have been seized. Mayor Breed stressed the importance of law enforcement’s continued commitment to addressing drug-related issues and improving neighborhood conditions.
The SFPD is working with city partners to tackle the city’s fentanyl problem. Outreach workers from various departments have been providing services to those in need. Public Works crews are maintaining clean streets, and law enforcement at all levels are assisting the SFPD in law enforcement.
