The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) has been involved in an international investigation into a bicycle theft and resale operation. The investigation resulted in the federal indictment of San Jose resident Victoriano Romero. Romero is accused of stealing high-end bicycles from Bay Area residents and selling them in Mexico. The indictment includes the theft of at least seven bicycles, each worth thousands of dollars, from San Francisco homes.
Romero is also connected to the theft of two bicycles from homes in Redwood City. In April 2021, SFPD officers searched Romero’s business in San Jose. They found one of the stolen bicycles, disassembled and ready for transport to Mexico. The bicycle was returned to its owner.
The federal indictment against Romero was filed in January 2024 and revealed this week. Romero faces charges of conspiracy and other related offenses. The indictment is a result of a joint effort between the SFPD, the FBI, and the United States Attorney’s Office.
The SFPD thanked its federal partners for their help in the investigation. The department also shared a link to the United States Attorney’s Office Press Release for more details on the investigation and charges against Romero.
