Protesters shut down Golden Gate Bridge Wednesday morning

SAN FRANCISCO ( KRON ) — The Golden Gate Bridge was blocked to traffic in both directions Wednesday morning due to protesters, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Northbound lanes appeared to reopen just after 8:10 a.m. The southbound lanes showed movement just before 8 a.m.

An estimated 15 to 20 protesters with signs and banners were blocking all lanes at 7:44 a.m., a CHP incident log showed. The protest, according to organizers, was held in response to Israel’s recent bombing of Rafah, a city in the Gaza Strip. Banners were displayed on the bridge that said “Stop Arming Israel” and “Hands off Rafah.”

The protest came to an end 30 to 40 minutes after it began when the group got back into their vehicles and left, CHP Officer Darrel Horner said.
