Northern California storm forecast shapes up: Up to 3-inches of rain in some places over weekend

Brace yourselves, Northern California, as the National Weather Service predicts the arrival of a potent cold front set to bring significant rainfall, strong winds, and potential flooding to the region.

The upcoming weather system is expected to make its entrance late Friday night in the North Bay, spreading rain to the Bay Area on Saturday morning and reaching the Central Coast by mid-day Saturday. Rainfall totals are projected to range from 1 to 2 inches in the North Bay, with 0.5 to 1 inch across the rest of the Bay Area and Central Coast lowlands.

However, the impact won’t be limited to rain, as strong southerly winds preceding the front will be accompanied by high surf conditions starting Saturday. These conditions result from a combination of robust winds and incoming westerly swell.

Although the rain is forecasted to taper off by Sunday morning, a short-lived break will be followed by a mature, gale force low-pressure system located approximately 500 miles west of northern California by Sunday evening.
