California Hazmat team called to investigate refrigerant leak; Three people sickened

The San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) is actively responding to an isolated Hazmat incident at 625 Bush Street, where a refrigerant leak has been reported within a unit of the building. Emergency crews, including the Hazmat unit, are on-site, diligently working to secure and mitigate the incident.

As a precautionary measure, SFFD’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team is evaluating three adults who have been affected by the hazardous material. The nature and extent of their injuries are currently under assessment.

The incident has prompted temporary traffic disruptions on Bush Street between Powell and Stockton. Commuters and residents in the vicinity are advised to expect delays and, if possible, to reroute to avoid the impacted area.

Authorities are urging the public to steer clear of the immediate vicinity as emergency responders manage and resolve the situation. The safety of both residents and first responders is the top priority during these operations.

Refrigerant leaks can pose health risks, depending on the specific chemicals involved. SFFD’s Hazmat unit is well-trained to handle such incidents and is taking all necessary precautions to contain and neutralize the threat.
