Huge drop in homeless tents, homeless vehicles in lawless, filthy California city, mayor brags

San Francisco Mayor London N. Breed announced a substantial decline in the number of people living unsheltered in both tents and vehicles in the city, marking a significant achievement in ongoing efforts to provide shelter, housing, and enhance the cleanliness of public spaces.

The latest quarterly tent and vehicle count, conducted last week, revealed a remarkable reduction:

  • 385 Tents: A 37% decrease from 609 in July 2023
  • 616 Vehicles: A 42% decrease from 1,058 in July 2023

This marks the largest reduction in tents over a six-month period since the start of the pandemic, reflecting the city’s commitment to addressing homelessness and improving overall living conditions.

The success is attributed to the work of the Healthy Streets Operations Center (HSOC), a collaborative effort involving multiple city agencies. HSOC leads daily encampment operations, prioritizing offers of shelter and services. In 2023 alone, over 480 operations resulted in the relocation of more than 1,500 individuals from encampments to shelters.
