Two Richmond fire engines helped respond to Con Fire’s initial response to the fire, which had spread to a grass area near Interstate 80 and El Portal Drive on Wednesday night, crews said.

The California Highway Patrol shut down all lanes on Interstate 80 “for a short period of time” while tending to the fire. The grass fire burned about three acres before being brought under control, firefighters said.

Fire crews did not report injuries, evacuations, or displacements. “Richmond firefighters will be here all weekend long keeping our community safe,” crews said.
