Person killed after being struck by BART train in Berkeley

( KRON ) — A person was killed after being struck by a BART train Wednesday evening at the Downtown Berkeley station, officials said. BART the station shut down at 5:46 p.m.

The victim was not on the trackway but was standing near it, according to BART.

As of 8 p.m., BART service has resumed, BART officials said. However, as of 9 p.m., the Downtown Berkeley station remains closed.

AC Transit bus number 12 is available for riders to travel between the Downtown Berkeley and Ashby stations. Bus number 52 is providing service between N. Berkeley and Downtown Berkeley stations, officials said.

Officials said a coroner is at the scene investigating.
