After Three Year Voyage Cleaning Up Giant Garbage Patch, Ocean Clean-Up Vessels Return to California

Kia Corporation and The Ocean Cleanup are marking a major achievement in their partnership to combat plastic pollution. Returning to San Francisco, where The Ocean Cleanup’s first vessel launched six years ago, the organization’s current System 03 has successfully hauled a significant amount of plastic from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP).

Since teaming up in 2022, Kia’s support has helped remove over one million pounds of plastic from the GPGP. With technological advancements, The Ocean Cleanup aims to cut the cleanup timeline from 10 years to just five, pushing the boundaries of ocean restoration efforts. Both organizations are committed to a future of cleaner oceans.
