For the eighth consecutive year, Atherton, a small town on the Peninsula, has been named the most expensive zip code in the U.S., according to Property Shark’s annual rankings. Despite a 5% drop in home prices, the median sale price in Atherton remains at a staggering $7.9 million.
The slight decrease, amounting to $400,000, defied the upward trend seen in 69% of the top 100 most expensive zip codes. California, particularly the Bay Area, dominated the list with 39 zip codes, further solidifying the region’s reputation as the nation’s priciest.
Despite recent slowdowns, the Bay Area retains its title as the nation’s most expensive metropolitan region.
