With Halloween kicking off this weekend in Novato on October 26, ghosts and goblins of all ages are preparing for trick-or-treating fun. To ensure a safe and memorable holiday, the Novato Police Department has released safety tips for parents, kids, and drivers.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Halloween can be dangerous on the roads, especially with 54% of drunk-driving crash fatalities involving adults between 21 and 34 years old from 2018 to 2022.
Novato Police encourage drivers to slow down, watch for trick-or-treaters, and avoid distractions or impaired driving. For families, they recommend costumes with reflective tape, flashlights, and staying on familiar, well-lit routes. Additional officers will patrol to keep roads safe, funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
