200-unit California apartment building gets $16 million for eco-friendly upgrades

RICHMOND, CA — Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA-08) unveiled $15,920,000 in federal funding for climate resilience and energy-efficient upgrades at the Pullman Point affordable housing complex in Richmond. Partnering with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Garamendi presented the hefty check to the Community Housing Development Corporation (CHDC), supporting vital improvements under HUD’s Green and Resilient Retrofit Program (GRRP).

The nearly $16 million investment will transform the 199-unit development by enhancing energy and water efficiency, generating renewable energy, and using eco-friendly building materials. Residents will benefit from lower housing costs and improved safety against climate hazards, aligning with the Biden-Harris Administration’s sweeping climate initiatives under the Inflation Reduction Act.
