California toll authority asks public for comments on plan to hike bridge crossing fees to $11.50

The Bay Area Toll Authority (BATA) and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) are hosting a public webinar on Nov. 13 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to discuss proposed toll increases for the region’s seven state-owned toll bridges. If approved in December, the tolls would rise gradually over five years, beginning January 2026, with the extra revenue earmarked for maintaining and operating key Bay Area bridges, including the iconic San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.

In addition to the toll hikes, proposed updates to carpool lane policies on bridge approaches are also on the table, set to take effect in 2026. The webinar will offer a detailed overview of these proposals, which are vital for preserving and enhancing the infrastructure of the region’s busiest toll crossings.

For those interested in attending, the webinar can be accessed via Zoom (Meeting ID: 897 0503 7686, Passcode: 034321) or by phone at 877-853-5247. This proposed toll increase is separate from the $3 Regional Measure 3 toll hike approved in 2018, which continues to fund highway and transit projects across the Bay Area. The final phase of that toll increase is scheduled for January 2025.
