Arab Restaurant in SF Closes, Blames “Late Stage Capitalism”

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Reem’s California, a popular Arab bakery and restaurant, has announced the closure of its Ferry Building location. The eatery, known for its fresh bread and Arab hospitality, will serve its last customers on January 31.

In a post on social media, the business cited unexpected plans by property ownership as the reason for the closure. They lamented “The trials and tribulations of running a values-driven business in late stage capitalism.”

The restaurant learned last month that its lease would not be renewed due to reconstruction needs at its current space, leaving them without an alternative location.

“We are thankful for our time to connect and reconnect with thousands of customers, old and new, and to have shared the warmth of Arab bread and hospitality,” the post stated.

Fans of the restaurant expressed their sadness and shared memories of their favorite items, including the Halawa Chocolate Chip Cookie and freshly made wraps.

Reem’s will remain open for the rest of January.
