SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A golden retriever was rescued after it fell from a cliff at Fort Funston Monday. A San Francisco Fire Department rescue team was able to scale down the cliff and reach the dog on a beach.
The golden retriever was determined to be OK and uninjured, SFFD said.
Nearly a dozen dogs had to be rescued from Fort Funston’s steep cliffs throughout 2024. In July, a dog owner and three pooches were trapped on a cliffside until they were rescued by SFFD. A few days earlier, a poodle and its owner ventured away from a trail before they were trapped on a cliff overlooking the ocean. In March, a couple was hiking with their collie after sunset and became stranded in darkness.
SFFD suggests that hikers ensure their dogs are leashed while exploring the area’s trails.
