Northern California Braces for Atmospheric River Bringing Rain, Thunderstorms, and Snow

A weak atmospheric river is expected to sweep across California this week, delivering moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, small hail, and high-elevation snow throughout the Bay Area. According to the National Weather Service San Francisco (NWS), the storm will bring gusty winds and high surf conditions starting Wednesday, with potential impacts on the morning commute.

Light rain will begin in the North Bay Tuesday night, intensifying as it spreads across the region on Wednesday. Coastal mountains could see up to 4 inches of rain, especially near Big Sur, while snowfall is possible over higher peaks. Another storm system is expected next weekend, bringing additional rainfall.
