Driver fleeing Marin County deputy slams into tree, dies

A driver who was fleeing from police was killed Friday morning after crashing into a tree and being ejected from the car, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office said.

At about 2:57 a.m., a Marin County sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a motorist who was driving recklessly in the area of Andersen Drive and Bellam Boulevard in San Rafael, officials said. The motorist did not yield to the deputy’s sirens and emergency lights, instead fleeing at a high rate of speed, prompting a pursuit, the sheriff’s office said.

The car crashed into a tree about two minutes later, according to the sheriff’s office. The driver was ejected from the car and declared dead at the scene at about 3:12 a.m., the sheriff’s office said…
