APD Announces ‘End of Watch’ for Beloved K9 Argo

“With a heavy heart,” the Alameda Police Department ( APD ) announced the passing of K9 Argo on their Facebook page on Thursday, March 27. “Argo served the City of Alameda from 2014 until his retirement in 2019,” the report stated. “He was surrounded by his loved ones when he passed away from an incurable genetic condition.”

More than 400 people had read the report as of early Friday morning, with many expressing their gratitude for the beloved police dog’s service, as well as appreciation and condolences to his handler, Officer Vanessa Dubon.

“It’s not easy losing a dedicated, loyal, and faithful partner,” one person wrote. Another said he always looks for Argo’s poster on the window at Pet Food Express on Blanding Avenue, adding “Never take it down, please!”

The common thread was an expression of gratitude to Argo for his service. During his years with APD, Argo participated in numerous community events, operations, and narcotic detections with Officer Dubon.

In addition to winning awards for his impeccable tracking skills, Argo played a significant role in the resolution of numerous cases in Alameda.

“After retiring, Argo enjoyed his days with his handler’s family which was filled with love, many exciting jumps into pools, and a relaxing life as a beloved companion,” the APD report stated. “We are forever grateful for K9 Argo’s service and the bond he shared with our department and the community.”…
