When YOLO Nightclub opened in 2021, taking the place of the legendary San Francisco club Slim’s, public backlash was swift. SFGATE reported on YOLO’s controversial social media posts , and KQED wrote an article titled “I Went to YOLO—the Nightclub That Replaced Slim’s—So You Don’t Have To.” This was also nearly a decade after peak usage of the acronym YOLO (as in, “you only live once.”).
