The Bay Area’s real estate market is flashing a key warning signal

More homes are for sale in the Bay Area. But buyers aren’t biting.

In March, about 1,300 new homes — including condominiums and small multifamily buildings — hit the market in the San Francisco metropolitan area, according to real estate company Redfin, which defines the area as San Francisco and San Mateo counties. But only 780 homes changed their status that month to “pending,” meaning an offer was accepted.
