23andMe to close San Francisco office, lay off 250 workers following bankruptcy filing

23andMe , the embattled Bay Area genetic testing company, plans to permanently close its San Francisco office and lay off 250 employees as part of ongoing restructuring efforts following its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing this year.

The closure, confirmed in a WARN notice filed with the California Employment Development Department, will take effect on June 17. The company’s office at 870 Market St. in downtown San Francisco will cease operations as part of a broader downsizing.
