SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — On Tuesday, a mysterious post appeared on Reddit, claiming that a treasure chest worth $10,000 was buried somewhere in San Francisco. The treasure, according to the website attached to the post, can be found in a 22 pound chest that’s “brimming with gleaming ingots, currency, and San Francisco artifacts.”
About half of the treasure’s value is in gold.
Why would someone bury treasure in San Francisco? According to the poster, the group behind the treasure hunt, “always figured treasure hunting would feature more heavily in life. Right alongside quicksand and tattered rope bridges.”

“Sadly, the science seems to be out on quicksand and, thanks to modern building standards, rope bridges are stronger than ever,” the treasure hunt’s website continued. “Buried treasure chests seem equally rare, but those we realized we could do something about.”…
