What began as a video store in the late ’90s has since grown into one of San Francisco’s most beloved neighborhood hangouts. Co-founded by Frederick Reeves and his then-business partner, the video store opened its doors in the mid-1990s. When the business faltered, they pivoted by adding a coffee bar in the front that quickly caught on and sparked the idea for an even bigger evolution. Now, 25 years later, Brickhouse Bar & Grill is a full bar and grill offering midweek breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as a popular weekend brunch.
At the heart of this transformation is Kim Kobasic, who came on board as an investor when the kitchen launched and has helped run the restaurant with her husband Frederick ever since. They purchased the property in 2018, deepening their roots in the community they’ve long served. “The space you sit in now,” Kim says, “was built by Freddy, single-handedly, over the course of a year and a half. It’s more than a restaurant – it’s our home, too.”
