Popular S.F. pub closing after 16 years

A longstanding San Francisco drinking destination, the Tipsy Pig, will close after 16 years in the Marina district.

The gastropub’s final day at 2231 Chestnut St. is Monday, May 26, co-owner Nate Valentine said. He plans to open something new in the space later this year; details about it were not immediately available.

A team of industry vets — Valentine, Stryker Scales and executive chef Sam Josi — opened the Tipsy Pig in 2009. It became a Marina favorite for bacon-topped macaroni and cheese, cocktails served in Mason jars and its oft-packed backyard patio. Former Chronicle restaurant critic Michael Bauer noted the bar’s “raucous” vibe but wrote, “This spirited crowd is fueled by well-made cocktails, beer and pub food that’s better than it has to be given the inebriation factor around the bar.”…
