Walnut Creek Police Arrest Burglary Suspect, With a Little Help From Friends in the Sky

WALNUT CREEK, CALIFORNIA – Contra Costa County sheriff’s deputies say what began as a residential burglary on Evora Road in Bay Point just after 3 p.m. on May 15 ended 17 miles away in Walnut Creek—thanks largely to STARR3, the Sheriff’s Office Airbus helicopter that now patrols county skies.

  • Deputies spotted the getaway vehicle—a white work van—heading east on Highway 4.
  • When ground units tried to pull the driver over on southbound Highway 242, he sped off and merged onto westbound Highway 24.
  • Near the Mt. Diablo Boulevard exit the driver suddenly turned the wrong way down an on-ramp. For safety, deputies called off the chase, but STARR3 stayed overhead, updating units on the van’s location….
