OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — A Castlemont High School teacher saved his girlfriend’s life “in a final act of love and selflessness,” his family wrote. Marvin Boomer, a beloved and inspirational math teacher, pushed his girlfriend out of the direct path of a car that slammed into Boomer on a sidewalk, according to a home surveillance video reviewed by KRON4 and a statement from his family.
Boomer was killed, and his girlfriend suffered serious injuries. The couple had been out on an evening stroll May 28 when a stolen car zoomed through an Oakland neighborhood and crashed into them, investigators said. Less than a minute before the crash, the teenaged driver had been chased by California Highway Patrol officers. The pursuit was terminated, but the teen continued driving recklessly, the CHP said.
In a home surveillance video, the couple can be seen as they desperately tried to dodge the out-of-control car on East 21st Street. The car destroyed a fire hydrant and plowed into a tree before it finally stopped. In another surveillance video, neighbors are seen running down the street, rushing to help the victims.
Boomer’s family released a statement through the Oakland Unified School District Monday describing his heroic actions…
