The 18-year-old driver who lost control of a car in Oakland and struck two pedestrians, killing a high school teacher, was not being chased by law enforcement at the time of the fatal crash, according to newly-released videos from the California Highway Patrol.
The videos do not support the account of the surviving pedestrian, Nina Woodruff, who told the Chronicle that she saw a speeding car, with a law enforcement vehicle chasing behind it, right before she and her partner, Marvin Boomer, were hit.
The video footage did not show a police car chasing behind the suspect vehicle, which police say was driven by Eric Hernandez-Garcia, of Oakland when it struck Boomer, a Castlemont High School teacher, and Woodruff, as they were walking along a sidewalk in the area of 12th avenue and East 21st Street around 7:45 p.m. on May 28…
