The 36-year-old construction worker from El Salvador drove with his wife and two kids through San Francisco on Saturday riddled with anxiety, weaving past No Kings Day demonstrators setting up for a day of protest against President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
“The majority of the people were not Latino,” he told the Chronicle on Sunday, as his attorney Aliya Karmali translated. “They were American.”
