SF deputies seize over 1,600 pounds of fireworks from stolen U-Haul

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — San Francisco Sheriff’s Office deputies on Tuesday found more than 1,600 pounds of illegal fireworks and explosives inside a U-Haul truck that was reported stolen, according to authorities.

Deputies located the stolen U-Haul around 1:30 p.m. in the Bayview District after a Flock license plate reader camera alerted dispatch, the sheriff’s office said. Law enforcement conducted a felony vehicle stop and detained the driver and a passenger.

The San Francisco Police Department’s Explosives Ordnance Disposal team responded after fireworks were found inside the truck. According to authorities, a total of 1,648 pounds of illegal fireworks and explosives were seized.

The two suspects were arrested and booked into the San Francisco County Jail on 36 felony charges, according to the sheriff’s office.
