KQED cuts 15% of staff as it faces budget woes and federal threats

KQED, the Bay Area’s flagship public media outlet, announced sweeping layoffs this week that will eliminate 45 positions or 15% of its workforce.

Among the hardest-hit departments is the entire video division, including the award-winning science series “Deep Look,” the station confirmed in a public statement released Tuesday, July 15, shortly after a Chronicle report. Cuts will also affect KQED’s education, IT and human resources teams.
