Suspects from San Francisco and Oakland Nabbed in Sunnyvale After Chase Linked to Jewelry Store Heists

Five suspects were taken into custody yesterday following a brief chase that began with an attempted car stop by Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers. The event unfolded around 2:30 PM when officers were looking for two stolen vehicles linked to a spate of jewelry store heists in Sunnyvale and the broader area, with the vehicles last seen near Lawrence Expressway and HWY 101, as reported by the City of Sunnyvale, California.

Officers spotted a vehicle that fit the description on El Camino Real and Wolfe Road and tried to pull it over, setting off a chase when the driver decided to flee. The pursuit was short-lived, with the suspects ditching the car and scattering on foot near Fremont Avenue and Rembrandt Drive. It was later discovered that the abandoned vehicle was stolen and that it had been near a jewelry store, leading the authorities to believe a robbery had been attempted.

Enlisting the help of the Santa Clara Police Department, Sunnyvale DPS carried out a thorough search of nearby neighborhoods, leading to the apprehension of all five suspects. According to the bulletin, these individuals hail from San Francisco or Oakland. Sunnyvale DPS is now probing the possibility of a connection between yesterday’s incident and previous robberies targeting jewelry stores in the area…
