(KRON) — A mother was killed and her two young boys were critically injured after the car they were traveling in was broadsided by an SUV that blew through a red light in San Mateo Thursday evening, according to police.
Officers with the San Mateo Police Department and California Highway Patrol responded to the crash at 6:17 p.m. in the area of Alameda de las Pulgas at Highway 92. Authorities found two vehicles, a Toyota Prius and a Ford SUV, involved in the collision.
The driver of the Prius, a 30-year-old woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her two boys, ages 5 and 7, were in the vehicle at the time of the crash and were rushed to a local hospital for their injuries. They were last listed in critical but stable condition, police said in an update on Friday.
