The industry that heralds itself as San Francisco’s next tech boom won an endorsement from Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday. In an announcement made at Google’s San Francisco office complex, Newsom said the state will partner with four tech giants to help train high school and college students for AI-related jobs.
The agreement with Microsoft, IBM, Mountain View-based Google and San Jose-based Adobe pledges to establish AI training courses at California State University campuses and at community colleges and high schools across the state. A news release sent by the governor’s office Thursday noted that California is home to “33 of the top 50 privately held AI companies” in the world, and said training residents to take AI jobs will help keep those companies in the Golden State.
“AI is the future — and we must stay ahead of the game by ensuring our students and workforce are prepared to lead the way,” Newsom said in Thursday’s release. “We are preparing tomorrow’s innovators, today.”…
