Manager at South Bay horse ranch charged with animal cruelty: DA

(KRON) — The manager of Chaparral Ranch, a popular horse-riding ranch in the South Bay, was charged with animal cruelty after a horse suffering from malnutrition and heat stroke was put down, Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen announced Thursday.

“Honey the horse was found unable to stand, badly emaciated, and filled with intestinal worms — a condition experts concluded could have been prevented with proper care,” the DA’s office said.

The defendant, 25-year-old Jennifer Bryant, will be arraigned at San Jose’s Hall of Justice at 9 a.m. on Aug. 11. Bryant faces a misdemeanor charge of failing to give proper care and attention to an animal. If convicted, Bryant could receive up to a year of jail time…
