Richmond officer who shot U.S. Marine was already under investigation by DOJ

RICHMOND, Calif. (KRON) — One Richmond Police Department Officer was involved in two deadly shootings this year, according to officials. On August 4, Officer Nicholas Remick and a second RPD officer fatally shot a U.S. Marine, 27-year-old Angel Montano, at his family’s home on First Street, officials said.

On February 4, Remick and a second officer shot Jose De Jesus Mendez Rios in Richmond, according to a California Department of Justice database. Their use of lethal force for the Rios case is still under investigation by state DOJ officials.

Officers were initially dispatched August 4 to the First Street home because the Marine’s brother called 911. He told dispatchers that Montano was threatening to kill him with a kitchen knife…
