14-year-old girl dies from injuries in Novato crash

(KRON) — A 14-year-old girl who was a passenger in a solo-vehicle hit-and-run collision in Novato has died, police announced Friday.

The girl, who has not been publicly identified at this time, had sustained critical injuries in the crash that occurred Wednesday around 3 a.m. on Ignacio Boulevard. Another passenger, a 15-year-old boy, was hospitalized with moderate injuries and was released from the hospital, the Novato Police Department said.

“We want to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the 14-year-old girl who lost her life,” Novato PD wrote in an update Friday. “This is a heartbreaking loss for her loved ones and our entire community.”

The driver of the crashed Ford Edge was identified by authorities as Cristofer Larreinaga Corea, 18, of San Rafael. Corea was not found at the crash scene by first responders, police said, and was later found and arrested on a warrant for violations of child endangerment and hit-and-run causing injuries.
