Alameda County District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson will soon decide whether her office will attempt to prosecute a 16-year-old boy accused of fatally shooting another teenager during a botched robbery in Oakland as an adult.
At the request of prosecutors Monday, Alameda County Superior Court Judge Scott Jackson, who presides over juvenile criminal cases, ordered the county probation department to file a report on the teen suspect’s background by Oct. 7. The report is expected to inform Jones Dickson’s decision on whether to push for the court to transfer the case to adult court. While prosecutors can request that teens be tried as adults, judges make the final decision.
