Oakland Chinatown welcomed thousands of people Saturday for its second annual night market as the neighborhood seeks to bounce back from post-pandemic challenges.
About 40 vendors sold food and snacks while attendees danced to music from Asian American artists, including Oakland rapper Seiji Oda, Bay Area singer-songwriter Kiyomi and Cantonese cover band Midnight Vanette.
The event has been organized and funded for the past two years by the Oakland Chinatown Improvement Council, a nonprofit founded in 2021 amid concerns among residents and business owners about crime in the neighborhood, alongside sponsors…
