Alameda County Sheriff Seeks New Leads in 32-Year-Old Unsolved Murder in San Lorenzo

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office is revisiting a 32-year-old homicide case and reaching out to the public for fresh leads. Santo Lopez, 21, also known as Rocky, was fatally shot during a robbery at his home in San Lorenzo on September 17, 1993. The crime has remained unsolved, but recent efforts by the sheriff’s Cold Case Homicide Unit are seeking to change that narrative.

At the time of the incident, witnesses reported seeing a black male suspect, approximately 18 years old and six feet tall with short black hair, fleeing Lopez’s residence. This individual was also spotted driving away in the victim’s 1988 black convertible Mustang, which was later recovered. In an unsettling detail, before the murder, the suspect was seen conversing with another Hispanic male, sitting in a late-model red Ford Mustang. However, despite the leads, the suspect’s trail grew cold, and the case slipped into the alcoves of unresolved tragedies in the community.

Now, a post from the Alameda County Sheriff urges anyone with information to come forward. “On Friday, September 17, 1993, Santo Lopez (Rocky), age 21, was shot and killed at his San Lorenzo home during a robbery,” reads the sheriff’s appeal…
