2.8 magnitude earthquake strikes near Berkeley

A 2.8-magnitude earthquake struck almost 2 miles southeast of Berkeley just before 6 a.m. Thursday, not far from the spot where a 4.3-magnitude quake struck this week, rattling much of the East Bay.

The epicenter of Thursday’s smaller quake was detected southeast of the Berkeley Tennis Club, according to data from the U.S. Geological Survey, at a depth of just over 5 miles.
