S.F. supervisor seeks to double fines for sideshow participants as city crackdown continues

A San Francisco supervisor wants to levy steeper fines on people who participate in sideshows and illegal street takeovers, marking the latest effort by elected officials and police to crack down on dirt bikers who weave and speed through city streets in droves, pulling stunts and jamming traffic.

Supervisor Danny Sauter introduced an ordinance on Tuesday that would increase the maximum fine for misdemeanor sideshow offenses from $500 to $1,000. He said the penalty was in line with state law and local ordinances in nearby cities like Oakland, Antioch and Santa Rosa.

Sauter, who represents the Financial District and North Beach, said the proposal was a response to growing concerns about sideshows from his constituents.
