SF to honor ‘friend to the community’ killed outside library

San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie and community leaders will gather at City Hall on Tuesday to honor Joey Alexander, the Urban Alchemy worker who was shot and killed last month.

Alexander died Sept. 30 of injuries he sustained in a shooting outside the main branch of the San Francisco Public Library, according to the San Francisco Police Department. He was 60 years old.

“This could have been any one of us who walk out on the streets of San Francisco,” said Del Seymour, the founder of neighborhood nonprofit Code Tenderloin, who will speak at Tuesday’s event. “The fact that these men and women went back to work the next day is astonishing.”…
