Highway 24 shooter arrested for attempted murder: CHP

(KRON) — An Oakland man was arrested for Thursday’s shooting on Highway 24, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The suspect, 57-year-old Carlos Ray Thomas, allegedly shot at multiple cars while driving on Highway 24 near the Caldecott Tunnel at about 3:45 p.m. He was taken into custody after he crashed his car into a center divider while driving southbound on Interstate 680 near Walnut Creek.

“Responding officers learned that a victim’s vehicle had been struck by gunfire from a passing vehicle,” CHP said. “The victim was uninjured and stopped near the scene. Two additional victims contacted CHP after arriving at their homes to report that their vehicles had also been struck by gunfire.”
