‘Every day is a nightmare’: Conflict has broken out at Marin’s historic ‘country club’ community

Time is running out for Bruce Julianus at the Marin Town and Country Club.

For 41 years, the soft-spoken gardener has resided in a ramshackle five-unit building on the 25-acre former resort on the edge of downtown Fairfax, putting up with a leaky roof and weak water pressure and critters in the walls to live amid the beautiful ruins of the historic abandoned country club with a creek, lush foliage and abundant wildlife.

But now Julianus, 67, is part of a group of residents being displaced over escalating conflicts with property owner Michael Mackintosh. Julianus, who pays about $1,500 a month for his small one-bedroom, has been served an eviction notice and has to be out by Nov. 15…
